The deal, in plain words.

01What this is

DownToCamp is a planning tool for road trips. It helps a group agree on an itinerary, see honest drive times, split costs and keep shared lists. It is not a booking service, a travel agency or a navigation system, and it does not sell you transport or accommodation.

02Using it

You can use it without an account. If you create one, keep your password to yourself — anything done from your account is treated as done by you. Do not use the service to break the law, to upload content you have no right to, or to attack the service or the people on it. Accounts or trips used for those things can be removed.

03Your trips are yours

You keep ownership of everything you put in — stops, notes, photos, expenses. You give us only the permission needed to store it and show it to the people you shared it with. A trip belongs to its crew: anyone on it can see and change it, and deleting a trip deletes it for everyone on it. Export your route as GPX at any time.

04The numbers are estimates

Routes, distances and drive times are computed from open road data, and weather comes from a public forecast service. They are good enough to plan around and they are never invented — but they are not a guarantee. Roads close, ferries stop running, passes fill with snow, campsites shut. Fuel and cost figures are arithmetic on numbers you supplied. Check anything that matters before you rely on it, and drive to the conditions in front of you rather than to a number on a screen.

Places, campsites and roads come from OpenStreetMap contributors. Wild-camping and overnight-parking rules differ by country and sometimes by field; where the app mentions them it is a summary, not legal permission. Getting it right where you actually are is on you.

05Hosts, listings and the boutique

Where the app lists places to stay or gear, the people offering them are responsible for what they offer, and any arrangement you make is between you and them. If you list something yourself, it has to be real, yours to offer, and described accurately.

06Availability, and no warranty

The service is provided as it is. We work to keep it up and to keep your data intact, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable or never lose anything, and we are not liable for a trip that goes wrong. Offline caching and GPX export exist precisely so that a bad day for the servers is not a bad day for you — keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

07Changes

These terms may change as the app does. Material changes will be noted here with a new date, and continuing to use the service after that means the new version applies. You can stop using it, and delete your data, at any time.
